sintra, where royalty chilled

On top of a sizeable hill in the town of Sintra lies a Palace that has been through a change or two. It has been inhabited by monks, been in ruins from an 18th century earthquake, housed kings + queens, survived a revolution + now it serves to be admired by tourists.

Most of our day there was spent discussing how difficult it must have been to get royal-worthy food up that mountain without motorized vehicles. That is actually what we talked about most of the day.
